An Intern's Story: Nigel Wilhelm

Nothing looks better on a college application than an internship. Well, good grades help too.  “We here at NextRequest are always looking for interns that are excited about working at the intersection of technology and government.”, explains our founder Reed Duecy-Gibbs. Last week we said a fond farewell to our most recent intern, Nigel Wilhelm, and we wanted to share his experience while working with us.

Nigel was connected to us from the Future Grads program from sf.citi, which provides local high school students with an 8-week, fully paid internship at a San Francisco-based sf.citi member tech company. He came to us hoping to find a field of study that would interest him. We quickly put him to work on market and business development research where he brought his problem solving and attention to detail to really help out. He told us that he“liked the freedom and the ability to interact with different teams and being able to ask questions and sit in on meetings.”

Bringing on high school interns like Nigel helps them to learn about how an office setting works and what to expect once they’re in a career themselves. Many students jump right into their college field of study without knowing if they’re actually going to enjoy the work. Nigel has a few more years before he decides on a career, but now he’s got some exposure into government tech under his belt. And speaking of choices, Nigel has to decide which of the 19 schools he applied to to attend. He’s already gotten into 4 so he’s going to have some tough decisions to make. Lots of luck to you Nigel and don’t be a stranger!
